Places of Ireland
Roof
Currently on view in the 3rd Annual “Inspired By..” art show at the North Shore Art League, Winnetka, IL.
My painting was inspired by pictures of the corbelled stone roof of a megalithic toumb at Knowth, County Meath, near where I come from in Ireland.
Dimensions: 5” h x 7” wide. Medium: watercolor on cold press paper
Lough Tay
Inspired by many hikes around Lough Tay, Wicklow mountains, Ireland. Lough Tay gets its name from its dark lake waters, which resemble black Irish tea, or té in Irish. It is also known as the Guinness Lake, because the owners, the Guinness family, are said to have laid white sand at the north end of the lake to make the lake look like a pint of Guinness.
Watercolor on cold press paper.
11” high x 14” wide
Curracloe Strand
Inspired by memories of summertime swimming at Curracloe Strand (beach) in county Wexford, Ireland. In my painting, I tried to capture the sandy nature of the beach, and the long distance from the edge of the beach to the sea.
Curracloe Strand was used for filming the Omaha Beach D-Day landing in the movie ‘Saving Private Ryan’, starring Tom Hanks, and featured in the movie ‘Brooklyn’, starring Saoirse Ronan.
Watercolor on cold press paper. 12”H x10”W unframed
